The final mountain stage of the 2026 Giro d'Italia runs 199 kilometers from Gemona del Friuli to Piancavallo, finishing with a double ascent of the Piancavallo climb. Coming one day before the closing stage in Rome, it is the last real chance to change the general classification on the road. By this point the race will be carried almost entirely in tired legs, and that is what makes the design so effective. Piancavallo is a long climb of around 14 kilometers at just over seven percent, hard enough to create differences without forcing a single, uniform pace.
