Gent-Wevelgem Women 2027 preview
The women's race is on Sunday, March 28, 2027. The event took the name In Flanders Fields in 2026, when the organizer dropped Gent-Wevelgem and moved the men's start to Middelkerke. For 2027 the women's race is on the UCI calendar as In Flanders Fields - In Wevelgem, with the Vanackerestraat as its venue. The organizer has not published the 2027 route or start time.
In 2026 the women's race started in Wevelgem for the first time, and it finished there on the Vanackerestraat after 135 kilometers on March 29. Four riders formed the early breakaway and had at most five minutes until the hills came near. On the first passage of the Kemmelberg the teams of Lorena Wiebes and Elisa Balsamo kept that lead in check.
The second ascent, by the Ossuaire side, the harder of the two, split the race, and the sprinter did it herself. Wiebes forced the pace and a group of five went clear: Wiebes, Elise Chabbey, Fleur Moors, Karlijn Swinkels and Eleonora Gasparrini. A chase with Balsamo and Charlotte Kool did not get back to them.
Gasparrini attacked in the last kilometers and could not get away. Wiebes started the sprint from the front, Moors kept coming at her, and Wiebes won by half a wheel, with Swinkels third. It was her third win in a row in Wevelgem, and she now holds the record alone.
