Gran Premio Miguel Indurain 2027 preview

The GP Miguel Indurain 2027 is on Saturday, April 3, in Estella-Lizarra in Navarre. The organizer has not published the route or the start time.

On April 4, 2026, the race came down to its last 15 kilometers and the three climbs in them. Ion Izagirre had gone with an attack as the final lap began, 29 kilometers from the finish. Quinn Simmons was among the riders who bridged across, and the lead group grew to 12 with hardly 20 seconds in hand.

The peloton had nearly closed that gap on the Alto de ErΓ‘ul, the first of the three climbs, when Simmons accelerated. Izagirre and Harry Sweeny went with him. Izagirre then attacked 1.5 kilometers before the crest, and Simmons alone could stay with him. Behind them Markel Beloki gave chase: by the Alto Demuru, 6.5 kilometers from the finish, he could see the two leaders, and he was with them when the descent began.

That left a single ascent, very short and steep. Izagirre accelerated where it was steepest, Beloki lost contact first and Simmons after him, and a little more than a kilometer from the finish Izagirre was alone. He stayed clear for his third win in the race, watched by his home crowd. Simmons kept second place, Beloki was caught on the way to the line, and third went to his teammate Alex Baudin, who sprinted in. The idea, Izagirre said afterwards, was "to hang on until the last climb and then give it my all."
