Muur Classic Geraardsbergen 2026 Preview: Cobbled Climbing in Late Summer

Muur Classic Geraardsbergen 2026 puts the famous cobbled climb at the center of a late-August Belgian one-day race. Defending champion Jonas Abrahamsen leads a field of Classics specialists and riders sharpening form.

The 2026 Muur Classic puts the Muur van Geraardsbergen at the center of a late-August test that attracts Classics specialists and riders sharpening form for the autumn calendar. The 910-meter cobbled climb through the center of Geraardsbergen peaks above 18 percent and rewards explosive accelerations more than sustained power.

Defending champion Jonas Abrahamsen proved in 2025 that the race can be won by a rider who reads the final-lap positioning correctly. Positioning into the Muur matters as much as the effort on it, and the narrow, twisting cobbles make it difficult to recover lost ground. Expect the race to fracture on the climbs and finish with a small group or solo winner.

2026 outlook

The 2026 Muur Classic Geraardsbergen is built around repeated passages of one of Belgian cycling's most recognizable climbs. The cobbled ramp through Geraardsbergen peaks above 18 percent and rewards explosive accelerations. Jonas Abrahamsen won the 2025 edition and will be among the favorites again.
