The general classification is usually decided by seconds. The route has no long climbs, so the gaps come from time bonuses, from a short time trial in the years that have one, and from the hilly stage to Geraardsbergen, where the cobbled Muur and the Bosberg are climbed on a finishing circuit. The Green Kilometer, three bonus sprints close together, can change the lead on its own. Flat stages on exposed roads can split in crosswinds. There was no time trial in 2025 or 2026, and both editions were won by fast finishers who survived the hills and collected bonuses.

Renewi Tour 2026 fills the late-summer WorldTour gap with five stages across Belgium and the Netherlands, where wind, positioning, and tactical precision matter more than climbing power. Arnaud De Lie returns as defending champion.
