Stage 6 preview

Stage 6 of the 2027 Tour de France runs 193 km from Vannes to Angers on Thursday, July 8, and should give the sprinters their second chance after Carlisle. ASO's stage table calls it hilly, with about 1,500 meters of climbing, but Prudhomme described it as mostly flat when he spoke to France 3.

From the Parc des expositions in Vannes, the route runs through Sulniac, Questembert and Rochefort-en-Terre to Redon, then into Loire-Atlantique through Guémené-Penfao and Nozay before it finishes in Angers.

Prudhomme pointed to a long straight road at the start of the final 50 km as a place where teams may begin to maneuver for position, and the finish in Angers rises on a false flat.

Angers last hosted a stage finish in 2016, when Mark Cavendish won the sprint on stage 3 from Granville. France 3 counts this as the 13th time Vannes has hosted a stage. The first time trial of the Tour follows the next day: Blois to Chambord.

Start: Vannes

Vannes, the prefecture of Morbihan, is a walled medieval town on the Gulf of Morbihan, and the Parliament of Brittany sat here. The Tour started the 2015 team time trial in Vannes, and the 2025 Tour de France Femmes began here with a stage to Plumelec.

Finish: Angers

Angers stands on the Maine just north of the Loire and was the capital of Anjou. Its castle holds the Apocalypse Tapestry, ordered in 1373. Mark Cavendish won the sprint here in 2016, and Tom Boonen won in 2004.
