ASO calls it the northernmost Grand Départ in Tour history and the third in Great Britain, after London in 2007 and Yorkshire in 2014. All six British stage towns are new to the race.

The first time trial follows on Friday, July 9: 38 km from Blois to Chambord with about 200 meters of climbing. Stage 8, from Bourges to Le Creusot, is the longest of the Tour at 224 km, with about 3,100 meters of climbing.
The Alps start on Sunday, July 11 with the first summit finish, 162 km from Villars-les-Dombes to the Grand Colombier. After the second rest day, in Haute-Savoie, stage 10 runs from Annecy to Sallanches (171 km). Stage 11 falls on Bastille Day and finishes on the Montée de Bisanne at Les Saisies, a resort that ASO lists among the places new to the Tour, after 150 km and about 4,750 meters of climbing. Two flat stages then take the race south to Montpellier, and stage 14 from Montpellier to Mende (199 km, about 4,300 meters) ends near the Côte de la Croix Neuve.
The last week begins with the second time trial, 33 km around Toulouse on Tuesday, July 20, flat apart from a short climb near the end, the Côte de Pech David. Stage 17 takes the sprinters from Muret to Pau, and the queen stage follows on Thursday, July 22: 174 km from Pau over the Col du Soulor, the Tourmalet and the Hourquette d'Ancizan to the Col du Portet, with about 5,400 meters of climbing. The Portet, at 2,215 meters, is the highest point of the 2027 Tour. Stage 19 from Hasparren to Laruns crosses the Col de Marie Blanque, stage 20 is a flat 198 km to Libourne, and the Tour ends on Sunday, July 25 on the Champs-Élysées after 116 km from Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
Time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds go to the first three riders at the finish of every road stage, and there is an intermediate sprint on each one. Three summit finishes is two fewer than in 2026, and ASO says the 71 km of time trials is the longest total since 2012.
