Start: Annecy

Annecy, the prefecture of Haute-Savoie, sits at the north end of Lake Annecy and grew around the river Thiou, with the 12th-century Palais de l'Isle on an island in its canal. A time trial started and finished here in 2009, the 2018 Tour started a stage here, and Nairo Quintana won the 2013 stage to Semnoz.

Finish: Sallanches

Sallanches, in the Arve valley facing Mont Blanc, was rebuilt in a neoclassical style after a fire in 1840. It hosted the 1980 world road race, won by Bernard Hinault, and the 2027 world championships will use a circuit around the town. The Tour's records list one earlier finish in the area, at Sallanches-Cordon in 1968, where Barry Hoban won.
