Stage 11 preview

Stage 11 of the 2027 Tour de France runs 150 km from Cluses to Les Saisies on Wednesday, July 14, Bastille Day, over about 4,750 meters of climbing. It is the second summit finish of the race, at a resort that ASO lists among the places new to the Tour and whose tourist office calls this the first stage finish in its history.

Five climbs lead to the finish: the Col de la Colombière (15.9 km at 7 percent), the Col de la Croix Fry, the Col de la Forclaz de Queige, the Col du Pré (12.6 km at 7.8 percent) and the Montée de Bisanne (12.4 km at 8.3 percent). Race director Christian Prudhomme singled out the Col du Pré and Bisanne pairing, and said it is probably one of the first times the Tour has stayed below 2,000 meters in the Alps.

Cycling Weekly points out that the Bisanne tops out about 4 km before the line, which makes this a summit finish by ASO’s definition. The count of summit finishes in the 2027 route is three: the Grand Colombier, Les Saisies and the Col du Portet.

Warren Barguil won on Bastille Day in 2017, the first French winner on July 14 in 12 years, and Tadej Pogačar won the Col du Portet stage on the same date in 2021.

Start: Cluses

Cluses is a watchmaking town in the Arve valley in Haute-Savoie, where clockmaking arrived in 1720 and a royal school of watchmaking opened in 1848. Tour stages finished here in 1994 and 2002, and stage 9 of the 2021 Tour started in Cluses.

Finish: Les Saisies

Les Saisies is a Nordic ski resort in the Beaufortain in Savoie, about 30 km from Albertville, that hosted the biathlon and cross-country events of the 1992 Winter Olympics. The Tour has crossed the Col des Saisies in 14 editions, but ASO lists the resort among the places new to the Tour map, so this is its first stage finish.
