World Championships 2027 preview

The 2027 UCI Road World Championships are held in Haute-Savoie, in the French Alps, from August 27 to September 5. They are part of Haute-Savoie 2027, the combined UCI Cycling World Championships, which bring 20 world championships together between August 24 and September 5.

The road races are at Sallanches, in the Pays du Mont-Blanc, on a circuit of 13.3 kilometers with 285 meters of climbing a lap. Its one climb is the Côte de Domancy, 2.5 kilometers at 9.4 percent. The elite men ride 20 laps on Sunday, August 29: 265 kilometers with 5,700 meters of climbing. The elite women ride 12 laps on Sunday, September 5: 158.6 kilometers with 3,420 meters.

For the men that is more climbing than Kigali had in 2025, 5,475 meters in 267.5 kilometers, and about 1,900 meters more than Montréal in 2026. The women have 70 meters more than in Kigali in six kilometers less.

Sallanches held the Worlds in 1964 and in 1980. In 1980 Bernard Hinault won alone after 20 laps over the same climb, and 15 of the 107 starters finished. The road up the Domancy is now called Route Bernard Hinault.

The under-23 and junior road races come first. The under-23 women and the junior men ride nine laps, 118.7 kilometers, on Friday, August 27. On Saturday, August 28, the junior women ride six laps, 78.8 kilometers, and the under-23 men 12 laps, the same 158.6 kilometers as the elite women.

The time trials are around Lake Annecy from August 30 to September 2. The elite men and women ride the same 37.2 kilometers on Wednesday, September 1. The course starts at the town hall of Annecy, follows the west shore through Sévrier, Saint-Jorioz and Duingt to Doussard, and returns along the east shore over the Côte de Talloires, 1.5 kilometers at 6.5 percent, to the finish at Le Pâquier in Annecy. The juniors ride 20.3 kilometers from Doussard to Annecy on August 30 and the under-23 riders the full course on August 31. The mixed relay is on Thursday, September 2: the men ride the first 16.9 kilometers to Doussard and the women the last 20.3 kilometers back.

The organizer has published the days and the courses. Start times and national teams are not known yet. France Télévisions shows the championships in France.
