Tour de Suisse Women 2026 Preview: de Vries leads after Sondrio opener

Femke de Vries won Stage 1 in Sondrio and leads the Tour de Suisse Women after Demi Vollering skipped the race.

Tour de Suisse Women 2026 runs from June 17 to 21 with five stages: two hilly openers in Sondrio and Locarno, a flatter Bad Ragaz day, a 23.8km Aarburg time trial, and a mountain finale in Villars-sur-Ollon.

The race picture changed on the opening day. Femke de Vries won Stage 1 from a two-rider move ahead of Lauren Dickson, with Cédrine Kerbaol third and the main GC favorites behind. Demi Vollering is not racing, so the overall battle now runs through de Vries' yellow jersey, Marlen Reusser's time trial, and whether Elisa Longo Borghini, Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney or Kerbaol can take time before the final climb.

Stage 4 and Stage 5 are the obvious reset points: the Aarburg time trial favors Reusser, while Villars-sur-Ollon gives the climbers one last chance to overturn the race.

2026 outlook

The route is no longer just a provisional framework: Sondrio, Locarno, Bad Ragaz, Aarburg and Villars-sur-Ollon make a compact five-day race with punch, a real time trial and a final mountain stage.

Stage 1 already put the favorites under pressure. Femke de Vries and Lauren Dickson forced the first split, Cédrine Kerbaol took extra time on the descent, and Reusser, Longo Borghini and Niewiadoma-Phinney now need to use the remaining route instead of waiting for one obvious summit showdown.
