Gent-Wevelgem 2027 preview

The race is on Sunday, March 28, 2027. It has been called In Flanders Fields - From Middelkerke to Wevelgem since 2026, when the organizer, Flanders Classics, dropped the name Gent-Wevelgem and moved the men's start from Ypres to Middelkerke, on the coast, under an agreement of 10 years. The organizer has not published the 2027 route or start time.

The 2026 race was the first under the new name and went from Middelkerke to Wevelgem on March 29. Eight riders went up the road early and had more than five minutes. The wind in De Moeren was not strong enough to split the peloton, though it broke in two later.

Wout van Aert attacked with 57 kilometers to go, and Mathieu van der Poel and Florian Vermeersch went with him. On the Ossuaire side of the Kemmelberg Van der Poel rode away and only Van Aert could follow; Vermeersch reached the top about ten seconds behind and never got back. With 32 kilometers left the two looked on their way to Wevelgem together.

They did not make it. Alec Segaert attacked from the peloton 4 kilometers from the finish and reached them, and the three started the last 3 kilometers with a small lead. Filippo Ganna pulled the peloton across at the red flag of the last kilometer, and Jasper Philipsen won the sprint from Tobias Lund Andresen and Christophe Laporte.
