Milano-Sanremo 2027 preview
Milano-Sanremo is on Saturday, March 20, 2027, and the start is in Pavia again. The city has hosted it since 2024, and the three-year agreement the organizer announced in February 2025 covers this edition. The route and the start time have not been published.
The 117th edition, in 2026, was 298 kilometers long, nine more than in 2025. The finale was unchanged: the three Capi, the Cipressa, 5.6 kilometers at 4.1 percent, and the Poggio, 3.7 kilometers at just under 4 percent, its top 5.6 kilometers from the finish on Via Roma.
That race turned in Imperia, 32 kilometers from the finish, where a crash brought down Tadej Pogačar, Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert. Pogačar was back in the peloton by the Cipressa. Brandon McNulty and Isaac del Toro set the pace on the climb, and with 24 kilometers to go he attacked there as he had in 2025. Only Van der Poel and Tom Pidcock could follow. The three had 30 seconds at the top and about ten left at the foot of the Poggio.
On the Poggio Pogačar dropped Van der Poel, the winner of 2023 and 2025, and could not drop Pidcock. The two came down together and sprinted on Via Roma, where Pogačar won by a few centimeters at his sixth attempt. Van Aert rode away from the peloton in the last kilometer and was third, four seconds back.
In 2025 the same attack had taken Van der Poel and Filippo Ganna with it, and Van der Poel won the sprint. After his own win Pogačar hinted that he was done with the race. "If I come back to San Remo it will only be to eat focaccia," he said, and he had told Pidcock that he might never return.
