Scheldeprijs 2027 preview
The Scheldeprijs 2027 is on Wednesday, April 7, and it starts in a new place. Because of work on the Western Scheldt Tunnel the men's start moves from Terneuzen, which has been closely linked to the race since 2018, to Middelburg. The finish stays in Schoten. The change was announced on October 1, 2026, and the route and the start time have not been published.
The 2026 race, the 114th, ran 205 kilometers from Terneuzen to the Churchilllaan in Schoten on April 8. There was hardly any wind in Zeeland, so echelons played no part. Six riders went clear early and never had more than three minutes. On the local laps in Schoten three of them pushed on, and the last were caught about three kilometers from the finish.
Milan Fretin, Dylan Groenewegen and Phil Bauhaus were among the riders caught in a crash, and in the reduced peloton few teams could still form a lead-out. Tim Merlier convincingly beat Pavel Bittner and Emilien Jeannière. It was his third win in a row in Schoten, and it came thirty years after Frank Vandenbroucke, his late father-in-law, won the race.
