The first rainbow jersey comes from a 39.2km city time trial with 220 meters of climbing. The course leaves Avenue du Parc for Old Montréal, the St. Lawrence riverfront, Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and Parc Jean-Drapeau before the Concorde Bridge returns it to the city. It asks for sustained speed, but the changes of surface and direction give a complete rider an advantage over a pure drag-strip specialist.
Favorites: Marlen Reusser starts as the defending champion and the clear reference point. Demi Vollering, Zoe Bäckstedt, Antonia Niedermaier, Elisa Longo Borghini, Kristen Faulkner and Lotte Kopecky are all on the published preliminary roster. Reusser owns the benchmark; Vollering has the climbing strength to make the rolling sections count.
