The Basque and Béarn climbs come one after another: the Col de Burdincurutcheta (8.7 km at 9.3 percent), the Col de Bagargui, the Col de Soudet (15.1 km at 7.2 percent) and then the Col de Marie Blanque (7.7 km at 8.6 percent). Cyclingnews puts the summit of the Marie Blanque 19 km from the finish.

Hasparren is a first-time stage town, according to ASO. Laruns has hosted three recent finishes: Primož Roglič won in 2018, Tadej Pogačar in 2020 and Jai Hindley in 2023, and in 2020 and 2023 the Marie Blanque was the last climb before the descent into town.

The Tour last crossed the Marie Blanque in 2023. If the yellow jersey is not settled on the Portet, this is where the race will be decided: there is no summit finish to hide behind, only a descent.
